Snow Skiing & Snow Boarding:

The Snowy Mountains ski season runs from June to October, although you can’t predict the weather or guarantee the snowfalls there is no need to worry; the ski resorts have their own snow making equipment. Whether you enjoy skiing or snowboarding the resorts offer both, as well as equipment hire. Skiing and Boarding is available for beginner to advanced skiers.

Cross Country Skiing:

The Snowy Mountains has one of the best cross country ski locations in the world. This unique rolling landscape, with its beautiful twisted snow gums and the occasional stockman’s hut, has become a special place for many cross country skiers and anyone who loves the outdoor life. The cool clean mountain air and beautiful alpine scenery draws many new comers to cross country skiing.

There is an extensive range of cross country trails which are very popular to explore, there are groomed trails close to the road at Perisher and Smiggin Holes a great starting point for first timers. Beyond these sheltered areas lies the expanse of diverse and pictureesque mountain region. There are steeper wilderness areas to suit wilderness skiers and telemarkers who look for steep, remote, untracked snow.

Mountaineering:

The Snowy Mountains of Australia in winter provide excellent conditions for practising or learning the basic skills of mountaineering. The weather conditions in the Main Range are similar to mountain climates anywhere in the world. Suitable for expedition style trips, snow camping and gear-testing.

Ice Climbing & Snow Shoeing:

Ice climbing in the Snowy Mountains has been responsible for developing many of Australia's finest mountaineers. You can be a first timer or an expert, either climb for the fun of it or have visions of being ready for overseas expeditions. If you are a novice there are professional instructors to assist you.

If you are not a skier try bushwalking in the snow. You can walk through the snow using light weight footwear which allows you to walk comfortably in your own shoes in snow conditions, even wearing a pack. Known as snow shoeing, this activity is suitable for all ages as it requires little to no technical ability or special skills other than walking and watching. Snow shoeing offers the opportunity to experience Australia’s snow country without skis.

There is also the opportunity to experience the fantastic snowfields at night under a full moon and learn about mountain fauna and flora. Open for all levels of fitness, no experience required. The tour operates from 5.30pm - 8.00pm with nibbles provided from 7.15pm onwards and on the following dates: Tue 6 July, Tue 3 August, Saturday 7 August, Tuesday 31 August and Saturday 4 September.

Fireworks at Perisher:

Every Thursday from 1 July 2010 to 2 September 2010 you can enjoy Perisher's night of lights and a great fireworks display from 7.00 pm onwards! Weather permitting – and there is no cost.

Perisher Night Skiing:

You are not limited to skiing in daylight hours, have you tried skiing or snowboarding under the stars! Open from 6.00pm to 9.00pm and starting Tuesday 29 June 2010 and continuing on Tuesdays, Fridays & Saturdays until 29 September. The Village 8 Express chairlift will take you to the top of Front Valley.

Smiggin Holes Night Skiing and Fireworks:

An excellent night for the kids with a safe and fun night on Zoe's ski carpet, from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. From 8.00pm a fireworks spectacular to top off the evening. Starting on Wednesday 30 Jun 2010, and continuing each Wednesday from 14 July 2010 to 1 Sep 2010.
