Transport
Unfortunately during the ski season, the National Parks DO NOT permit any overnight parking in the main car park areas of Smiggin Holes Alpine Village.
However, Imbac offers Members and Guests free transport to and from their vehicle at Sawpit Creek Car Park using the club's own 4WD vehicle.
So, what do you do with your vehicle?
There are basically 3 options available to you. These are:
Lodge Parking: (limited spots @ $20/Night)
There will be four parking spots available at the lodge this winter. The
cost to park at the lodge will be $20 @ night per vehicle
pre-booked and prepaid with the Booking Officer.
Because snow/road conditions can change very quickly, only 4WD vehicles
will be allowed to park at the lodge. Members & Guests who have
pre-booked a spot are asked to take their vehicles down to the main car
park after un-loading so that Members/Guests still arriving/departing have
enough room to unload/load.
After the parking/troopie allocation process by our managers those with
lodge parking spots will be given NPWS permits by our lodge managers and
allowed to park their vehicles.
Bullocks Flat: (catch Tube)
Leave your vehicle at Bullock's Flat car park and catch the ski tube to
Perisher terminal, where you can then catch the FREE shuttle bus that runs
between Perisher and Smiggins between 8.30am and 7.00pm every day, all day
(no set times). Then you walk up the hill to IMBAC lodge with your
gear. There is a sled available for use by members and guests to assist with
luggage.
Outside these times and as long as it is pre-arranged and not too
late, pick-up via the troopie is possible.
You then do the reverse of this on your day of departure.
Sawpit Creek and IMBAC Lodge vehicle:
Imbac has an 11 seater Toyota Land Cruiser Troop Carrier. This vehicle is to be used by the Managers in place of their own vehicle for the season, to carry out any necessary IMBAC business (eg; trips to Cooma or Canberra for supplies etc).
The main reason, for the acquisition is to assist IMBAC Members and Guests with easy access to their vehicles at Sawpit Creek car park during the Winter Season.
The Lodge vehicle is to be driven by a volunteer driver (Member or Guest)
to bring other drivers back up from Sawpit Creek car Park Friday &
Sunday afternoons after having parked their own vehicles.
It will operate in the same way on Friday & Sunday mornings to take
drivers down to Sawpit Creek car park to retrieve their own vehicles.
These times are flexible around the hours of 7.00 am and 6.00 pm subject
to discussion with the managers and other Members and Guests.
For this service to be successful, run smoothly and continue to operate, common sense must prevail and the following points must be observed and adhered to: -
- 0n arrival at the lodge, place your name on the whiteboard provided (in foyer and/or upstairs in the bar area) if you wish to use this service.
-
Maximum of 11 persons per trip.
-
Drivers must be licensed - normal license.
-
NO under 25-year-old drivers.
-
The driver before obtaining the key from the Managers must fill out the Log sheet.
-
Late or out of the ordinary arrivals may arrange for the use of the vehicle with at least 2 days prior notice and subject to vehicle and driver availability.
-
NO smoking in the vehicle.
-
ALL seat belts must be worn.
-
Set times are 7.00am & 6.00pm only on Fridays & Sundays.
Please note: This is NOT a taxi service where you just ring for a pick-up, nor are the managers the taxi drivers. It is to operate only at these set times and using Members & Guests as drivers.
It is NOT for the transport of luggage to & from Sawpit Creek car park; please use your own vehicle for this purpose. The IMBAC lodge vehicle is NOT to be used as a substitute for hiring chains.
We hope that this free service will benefit everyone and ease the past problems of getting to and from Sawpit Creek car park. We would also appreciate your co-operation with the smooth running of this free service.
Note: - Heavy Fines will be imposed by KNPWS rangers on those vehicles illegally parked overnight within the ski villages.
